About us
frinq is a dating app built on one idea: you should know a little about how someone thinks before you see what they look like.
You start by answering questions about yourself. From your answers we write a short profile of you, which we call your read. Then we introduce you to people one at a time, and you read about each of them before their photos open.
frinq is live at app.frinq.in. It runs in the browser on your phone or computer, so there's nothing to download.
Why we built frinq
Most dating apps work the same way. You see a photo, a name, an age and maybe a line of bio, and you decide in a couple of seconds.
The things that matter once you're actually with someone don't show up there. How they behave after an argument. What they need from you on a bad day. Whether they remember the small thing you mentioned once. You usually find that out months in.
We wanted to change the order. Ask the harder questions first, and let people meet on what they said.
What frinq does differently
The questions go further than a first date would
A first date already tells you whether someone is chatty or funny. It won't tell you how they deal with money, what they do when they're stressed, or how they make up after a fight. Most of our questions are about that side of a person.
You read about someone before you see them
When we introduce you to someone, you first see what we noticed about them from their answers. Their photos open after that.
Nothing is shared until you say so
Your read, your answers and anything you record stay private until you decide to share them. You can see exactly how your profile looks to someone else, and hide any part of it.
There's no right answer
Options are shuffled and look the same on screen, so none of them reads as the "correct" one. It's a small thing, but people answer more honestly when no option looks better than the others.
How frinq works
- Sign in. Use your phone number with a one-time code, or your Google or Apple account.
- Answer the questions. There are 44 short screens, and they take about 20 minutes. The first few cover the basics, like your age, your city and who you'd like to meet. The rest are about you. Some are a quick tap or a this-or-that choice. Others ask for a short story, which you can type or record as a voice note. If none of the options fit, tap "It depends" and explain in your own words.
- Get your read. When you finish, we write a read of you: what you value, how you show you care, how you communicate and what you need from a partner. Only you can see it at first.
- Meet your introductions. We introduce you to people one at a time, based on how your answers fit with theirs. For each person you see what we noticed about them, what you both like and why we think the two of you would get on. Then their photos open.
- Answer their question. If someone interests you, answer the question they've asked. If they like your answer, they send you a request back.
- Start talking. When you're both happy, a chat opens and you can talk to each other. You also see a bit more about each other: what an ordinary day looks like for them, a few things to ask them about and an idea for a first date.
